The best walking trail is the Trilha Pedra do Simon which takes about eight hours roundtrip from Barragem Beija Flor, at the end of the main road into the park. It's also possible to walk over the forested mountains to Petropolis. Most trails are unmarked but it's easy and inexpensive to hire a guide at the national park visitor center. The best months for walks are May to October.
