Punta Arenas

On the western shore of the Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas (population 113,000) is an interesting city, attracting Antarctic research and tourist vessels, as well as fishing and naval fleets. It's a worthwhile stop and a great place to absorb some of this area's curious history.
