Puno

Puno was founded on November 4,1968, but few colonial buildings remain except the cathedral. With narrow streets and busy traffic, the town itself is rather chaotic and claustrophobic, but there's a lively pedestrain mall, a couple of busting plazas and a god choice of places to stay and eat. It's your only real choice of a base if you are planning to make forays to Lake Titicaca's various islands or to surrounding archaeological sites.
