Leticia

Set in the southeast tip of the country Leticia is a small. hot town on the Amaion River where the borders of Colombia, Peru and Brazil converge. The town is the only significant tourist center in the Colombian Amazon, serving as a base for tours around the region. Leticia is also a gateway to further Amazonian adventures, linked via the Amazon with Iquitos (Peru) upriver and Manaus (Brazil) downriver.

The town has reasonable tourist facilities and flight connections with Bogota. Impor tantly, Leticia is a secure and easygoing place -guerrillas are not active in the region July and August are the only relativel dry months. The wettest period is from Feb. ruary to April. The Amazon River's higher level is in June, while the lowest is from August to October. The difference between low and high water can be as great as l5m.
