Corrientes
Corrientes is one of Argentina's oldest cities and capital of its namesake province. It has a mix of colonial and modern architecture, several churches and a number of ceibo and jacaranda. The city's charm is derived largely from its slightly crumbling - but very pretty- centre, based arounds city's main square, the Plaza 25 de Mayo. Here you'll find examples of trditional correntino colonial buildings with overhanging roofs supported on
wooden posts interspersed with more eloborate late nineteenth-century italianate architecture. Corrientes' airport, the aeropuerto Fernando Piragine Niveyro, lies some 10km northeast of the city. the city's bus terminal is around 4km southeast of Plaza 25 de Mayo, along with the city's main access roads, the Avenida Maipu. Corrientes hotels are particularly oriented towards businessmen and while there are some good upmarket places, simple and pleasant residential accommodation is pretty thin on the ground.
