With 100,000 inhabitants, Juliaca is the largest town in the department of Puno, has the only commercial airport and is a major railway junction, with connections to Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. Juliaca is not a particularly attractive town however, and most people head straight for nearby Puno, which has better hotels and views of Lake Titicaca.
