Ica

Ica Ica, Capital of its department is a pleasant colonial town of 15,000 inhabitant, 305 km south of Lima. The Panamericana heads inland from Pisco, climbing gently to 420m at Ica.

The town is high enough to be free of the garua (coastal fog), and the climate is dry and sunny. The desert surrounding Ica is noted for its huge sand dunes. The Rio Ica irrigates vineyards and supports thriving wine and pisco-producing industries; the wineries and distilleries can be visited. Ica has a fine regional museum and several annual fiestas.
